Great workshop today with Charlie Paffenroth of @daydreemerstudios. Charlie taught us how to use the software Resolume Arena to video map different shapes and surfaces. Students were able to map the clock on the library wall and a cut out of a spoon from back stage. The tech crew will apply these new skills to enhance the set design for the musical Guys and Dolls in March! Thanks to @winchesterfoundation for sponsoring us.

Yesterday during WIN block we had the opportunity to chat with Winchester native and music journalist,Hilary Hughes @hilmonstah during our Interviewing Techniques and Best Practices workshop with WinCAM @wincamstagram. Hilary has written about Lady Gaga, Steve Martin, Childish Gambino, The Avett Brothers and more. Her vast portfolio of work includes conversing with Mariah Carey on her #1 Billboard hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, discussing the tumultuous periods of American history with Jon Batiste, and talking through a transformative period of death and new life with Maren Morris. Hilary’s work has appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, MTV News, Esquire, Rolling Stones, NPR Music and more. Hilary gave her advice on entering music journalism, encouraging anyone interested in the field to write all the time. She stressed the importance of practice and finding your own voice. She encouraged students to start small such as starting a blog. She explained how she started small at different music venues in Boston and that has led her to various opportunities. Hilary also stressed the importance of being a music journalist and spoke to the magic of being a part of someone’s passions, and vulnerabilities and dreams. As a final send off she added the mantra “ Living the dream wasn’t meant to be easy” Thank you so much Hilary for speaking with us!
