Yesterday during WIN block we had the opportunity to chat with Winchester native and music journalist,Hilary Hughes @hilmonstah during our Interviewing Techniques and Best Practices workshop with WinCAM @wincamstagram. Hilary has written about Lady Gaga, Steve Martin, Childish Gambino, The Avett Brothers and more. Her vast portfolio of work includes conversing with Mariah Carey on her #1 Billboard hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, discussing the tumultuous periods of American history with Jon Batiste, and talking through a transformative period of death and new life with Maren Morris. Hilary’s work has appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, MTV News, Esquire, Rolling Stones, NPR Music and more. Hilary gave her advice on entering music journalism, encouraging anyone interested in the field to write all the time. She stressed the importance of practice and finding your own voice. She encouraged students to start small such as starting a blog. She explained how she started small at different music venues in Boston and that has led her to various opportunities. Hilary also stressed the importance of being a music journalist and spoke to the magic of being a part of someone’s passions, and vulnerabilities and dreams. Before break we zoomed with Domenic LaFauci, assistant Dean of Aviation at Southern New Hampshire University. Dom is both an Associate Master and Master Flight Instructor and oversees the Aviation Operations and Management program, as well as the Unmanned Aerial Systems certificate program. In addition to his dean role, he teaches academic courses, including aerodynamics, aircraft operations, and aircraft systems. Dom spoke with senior Nate Morrissey, who is pursuing a career in aviation, about his experiences. We talked about flight aerobatics, operations and the necessary schooling required to become a flight instructor. Thanks so much Dom!
